Sanno Matsuri is one of Tokyo’s ‚big three‘ festivals.

Alternating with the Kanda Matsuri and Sanja Matsuri festivals, Sanno Matsuri is held in even years only. Festivalgoers clad in ancient costume flock to the centre of Tokyo. A big parade accompanied by musicians makes its way through the city streets. Although this is not the largest such festival, it is the most traditional and reveals fascinating insights into the history of Japan.
