The festival regularly screens over 1000 feature films, documentaries, shorts and web originals. The festival was originally launched to give black artists both in front of and behind the camera the same opportunities as their mainstream counterparts. Founded in 1997, the first edition was held in Acapulco. Over the years, it has evolved into a distinguished industry event that attracts more than 10,000 visitors.
