The date on which this festival falls is governed by the lunar calendar. After the Spring Festival, it is the most important festival for the Chinese. People travel home from all four corners of the earth to celebrate rituals and ceremonies with their families and uphold Chinese culture. The full moon is a symbol of peace and prosperity for the whole family. Homes and streets are adorned with colourful lanterns, and traditional specialities such as mooncakes are served. This is also an opportunity to worship the moon and pray for a good harvest, which means this celebration can be compared with a harvest festival.
