Australia Day
It commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet of British ships in 1788. 11 ships with convicts, civil officers and crew members came from England to Australia. This day is now celebrated as public holiday and is taking place throughout the country. The day includes the ‘Australian of the Year’ awards and an address by the Governor-General. Public events, concerts and gigantic fireworks are an indispensable part of Australia-Day celebrations.
