Rama X has been King of Thailand since 1 December 2016.
As the second child of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit Kitiyakara, he was Crown Prince from 1972 until 2016. Numerous festivities are held throughout the country to mark the monarch’s birthday. In Bangkok in particular, public buildings are decorated with lush flower garlands.
