Boston, the arguably most storied city on the East Coast of the United States, offers historic sights, landmarks and tourist attractions aplenty. One of them is the famous Freedom Trail. This around 5-kilometre-long, red-lined trail leads you straight through the city streets and connects the most important sights.
So why not get to know Boston on foot?
Start at Boston Common, the centrally located park with the grand Massachusetts State House, the governor’s residence. Walk past churches, cemeteries and chapels to the harbour. From there, the trail continues to Boston’s old city hall, the Old State House passing 16 buildings, landmarks and historic sights. Over the Charles River to Charlestown and to the Bunker Hill Monument. Commemorating the most important battle at the start of the American War of Independence.
You can either take a guided tour of the trail or explore independently. This walking tour gives you an excellent overview of historic Boston.
